Woofz app review - is it REALLY free?
If you’ve landed here, then there are a few options why. You’re either looking for a nice dog training app to train your dog (gudos for you if that’s the reason!💙). Or you’ve already hear something about Woofz and have googled something like “Woofz app review,” “Is Woofz really free?” or maybe even something like “Woofz scam?”.
But is this is the first Pocket Puppy School app review articles you read, then here is also a little disclaimer. When it comes to dog training, there really isn’t one size fits all. Every person has certain amount of time, specific expectations and financial preferences.
We are also a dog training platform, meaning we are an alternative to them - these are just our opinions, not actual facts. You are welcome to check them out and form your own opinions as well. Our word isn’t the law or set in stone.
These type of app reviews are not about comparing or just to boldly criticise other apps. Our goal is simply to share clear information and give dog owners an overview of what options are out there for dog training. Especially since we are also a dog training platform and know a lot about it.
No matter which app or training style you choose, what truly matters is spending time training and bonding with your dog. Any dog training you do is awesome.

How we review?
So far, when we’ve made this type of reviews, our general framework is to talk about good things aka 3 tail wags, something that is kind of in between aka 2 head tilts and one concern/ something that we don’t like aka 1 growl or bone to pick.
3 tail wags
Personalization with the “My Plan”.
First you’ll be greeted with a quiz where you’re asked about your dog and your concerns and things your dog is good/bad with. Based on your answers you will get kind of a personalized plan, which means that based on your answers before, the app has chosen topics that could be helpful for you with your concerns.
Good approach especially for someone who is just starting out with train ing their dog. Visually you’ll see only topics that are important to you.Nice variety of topics and tricks.
It was good to see that Woofz app has nice variety of tricks and topics. So we would say that it is a good starting point if you want to try out training your dog yourself, but are not super shure how deep into dog training world you want to get to.Woofz App Extra features
When we were testing the Woofz app, we noticed that aside from tricks you can teach your dog, you can also try out other features. We found things like activity and hydration tracking, massage and relaxation topics, calendar etc.
So if you want to try out something other than dog training, it will keep you engaged.
2 head tilts
Drawings/ illustrations
We liked that Woofz app had cute drawings. They were consistent, clean and didn’t seem like AI generated ones. But where the head tilt comes in, we noticed that they were lacking real-life examples. They were there, but very minimalistic, and not very explanatory.
In reality dog training can be chaotic, you’ll basically never know how your dog will react or what to expect, especially if you’ve just started.Topics are there but not the depth
As we said in the tail wags section, Woofz has a nice variety when it comes to trics and topics. But this is kind of where it stays. Most if not all topics stay on the surface level, don’t explain it fully and don’t go further than the very first step.
Real dog training actually requires layering, repetition and also increasing the difficulty. It basically never stops with just one thing.
Like the “stay”/ “wait” trick. You can teach your dog to “stay” while you’re stepping a few steps away, but that is not even close to perfecting the “stay” command. It is more complex and requires to train next levels of the trick in order to really make an impact in your dog’s behavior.
1 growl / bone to pick
The biggest negative thing about the Woofz app and what makes people say that they are a scam, is their marketing.
Woofz app is very heavily advertised as a FREE dog training app. So when we tested and used their app, we paid extra attention to that. And yes, you can download the app for “free” and you can also go through a few introductory topics without having to pay.
But where the actual dog training topics begin, their “free” app stops and you’re welcomed by the one and only paywall. So when you find online that people have said that Woofz app is unethical and a scam, then it is not because the app has nothing. It is because the expectation of “free” does not match the real experience, which is that Woofz actually isn’t free and you do need to pay a subscription fee.
Another thing that goes under their marketing is their promise of the ultimate dog training app that gets you to solve dog behaviour problems within a few hours or a couple of days…
Again, sets big expectations, but in reality, if you can get into their dog training topics you’ll see that they say things take weeks of commited training to see results.
Final thoughts
So these were our main thoughts based on our own testing of the Woofz app. You are absolutely welcome to try it out yourself and form your own opinion, based on your personal experience.
But when you are super beginner and just want to see if you can do the very basics and stick to it, then this app is a good place to start. The “My Plan” adds a structured way to stay focused on certain topics and extra features adds things to discover and use other than dog training tricks
At the end of the day we will stay true to what we said in the beginning of this blog article - as long as you actually train your dog and spend actual quality time with your dog, you are already better than any other person who just owns a dog.
You just have to be sure that you won’t be disappointed if you end up spending money.
