Are Benebones Safe for Dogs? Everything You Need to Know About Hard Chews.

Chewing is one of the most important thing dogs need, and it’s also one of the most annoying things for us, dog owners.

In comes Benebone - an alternative chewing item for puppies and for grown dogs.

We have tested Benebone products on a number of dogs and here is our verdict - is it safe?

Is it dangerous?

After having given it to our dog and dogs that we have trained with - they have all been okay.

The toys are mostly a mixture of nylon and another natural ingredient, such as real wood, fish, peanut butter or something similar.

And because of the nylon, these toys are tough. We haven’t seen any dog be able to destroy these toys in one sitting, or in five.

Not edible!

A big BUT! is needed after saying that it is okay for dogs. Nylon is typically non-toxic for dogs, and small shavings can pass through the dog’s system just fine.

However, these toys are not meant to be ingested, eaten or as meal replacements. Thankfully, because the toys are so tough, we haven’t seen any dog be able to break off a big enough piece to eat.

But if you do have an “amazing” idea to… I don’t know… saw off a piece to give to your dog to eat - don’t do that.

A sensible conclusion

I like to look at these chew toys, like real wooden branches.

Dogs like to chew on those as well, and we all know that wood is not food. But other than that, and the possible splinters and the mess, wooden branches often make for a good chew.

So in conclusion, these chew toys are safe and good - just remember to monitor your dog and don’t do anything dumb.

All dogs that we have given Benebones to have loved them and nothing bad has happened to us personally.
