DOGO app review by PPS
If you have been following our Pocket Puppy School blog or our YouTube channel, then you know that we love sharing useful tips, tools and review products. And since we’re a dog training platform after all, we think it’s just as important to share information about dog training tools too.
That is why we are starting a new mini blog series about different dog training apps.
In each article we’ll take a look at the basics of one app: a simple overview of its pricing, features and highlight 3 things we like, 2 neutral observations and also mention 1 thing we think could be improved.
Disclaimer! These reviews are by no means about putting other apps down. It’s the opposite actually! Our goal is to provide honest information and show dog owners the variety of options available. At the end of the day, whatever choice you make,, the goal here is to encourage you to train and spend time with your dogs… no matter the app, method or training plan you choose.
Now let’s get to our first review, which is the Dogo: dog and puppy training app.
What is Dogo dog training app?
The Dogo dog training app is quite well-known. It is designed to train puppies, but also adult dogs, while focusing on positive reinforcement training. Dogo includes short step-by-step lessons and an option to send in a video of your dog doing a trick, to get a feedback from a dog trainer.
Available on: Android and iOS
Pricing: around $9.99/mo or about $168/y. They also have a free version, but it is super limited. To get full experience and get access to all the topics and other features, you need to get the subscription.
Main features: training plans, built-in clicker, get feedback from a trainer
Extras: walk tracker, in-app mini-articles, games to teach to your dog, family account sharing, you can download a separate whistle app, to use their whistle tool.

3 Tail wags
Every app has its strong areas and when it comes to the Dogo app, it shines in many key areas. So let’s see what makes this app appealing for the users.
It is well received and popular - the app was launched in 2017, so it’s been on a market for almost a decade now. It has a lot of users and it really is a reliable app for a dog owner.
Dog trainer feedback - if you finish learning/teaching a trick to your dog, you can film it and send it to the dog trainer, who will then give you feedback. So if you feel unsure, it is a good way to get some extra tips or a thumbs up from a professional.
Plenty to explore- there are a lot of things to do there. Lots of things to click and go through. It could be super helpful if you have short attention span or maybe you don’t want to go in-depth in your dog training journey.
2 Head tilts
Here are two neutral things about the Dogo app, a.k.a two head tilts, which is how dog’s react when they hear new information.
Specific programs - 3 people-focused courses and 10 dog training courses about general training, behavioral training and puppy specific training. The app focuses on basics in different topics, however did seem like the theory or explanation part were a bit short. So it’s great if you are looking for an easy start into the dog training world, but it might be too short for people who are looking for in-depth, advanced, long explanations.
Different rewards - you have a course progress bar, knowledge levels, certificate, daily streak count. That helps you celebrate smaller and bigger wins on your dog training journey.
This is great to keep people motivated, which is actually one of the hardest things to achieve when starting any sort of training.
1 bone to pick
Even the best things in the world have things that could be improved. For Dogo dog training app, the main drawback in our opinion comes down to their pricing system.
While the app itself is valuable and interactive, the subscription plans differ between their app and website, which is inconsistent and can be confusing, especially for a new user.
So depending on where you purchase, you might even end up paying more in general or even for the same plan.
Just to be clear, asking money for something that you have built isn’t a bad thing. It is someone’s knowledge, active service, time and effort. It just comes down to how it is presented and if it is priced clearly.
Final thoughts…
Overall we think that the Dogo app is a solid choice! It has different features, they try to keep dog owners consistent (super important in dog training), you can have trainer’s feedback and we like their positive reinforcement approach. 😌
It’s training information is super good and we definitely agree with it!
If you like what you have seen, definitely give Dogo a shot. ☺️
But remember that training a new puppy or a dog is never a one day or even 1 month thing. It is something that takes time - it’s commitment and a long journey.
So at the end of the day, whether you choose Dogo, our Pocket Puppy School or any other dog training app or method, the most important thing is that you’re specifically taking the time, consistently train your dog and spend good time together. 💙
