We’re back with another dog training app review. This time let’s have a look at an app called Puppr.

If this is the first Pocket Puppy School app review articles you read, then here is a little disclaimer. When it comes to dog training, there really isn’t one size fits all. Every person has certain amount of time, specific expectations and financial preferences.

So these app reviews are not about comparing or criticizing other apps. Our goal is simply to share clear information and give dog owners an overview of what options are out there for dog training.

No matter which app or training style you choose, what truly matters is spending time training and bonding with your dog. May it be ours or Puppr, any dog training you do is awesome.

The Puppr app

If you haven’t heard of them before, then Puppr is a dog training app and they are focused on positive reinforcement, that includes a selection of different tricks you can teach your dog.

The lessons are short, easy to follow and visual, which is good if you are a beginner in dog training world.

Available on: Android and iOS

Pricing: their premium subscription is about $12.99 a month or $99.99 for a yearly subscription. But they do have several free trick lessons you can try out without making a purchase.

Main features: built-in clicker, step-by-step gif form tutorials within lessons, trainer chat support.

Extra features: monthly challenges, community page, badges.

3 tail wags

In these type of reviews, we always like to bring out things we found helpful or that has been made very well. So let’s start off with 3 tail wags.

• Monthly challenges - this is always a nice touch! It keeps people some new fun things to try out with their dog and keeps the motivation up.

• Fast app and clean design - the app itself runs smoothly. The design is minimalistic, which makes it quite easy to navigate.

• Short clips to showcase - gif style clips, that show you how to do the current step, are very helpful. This way the dog owner knows clearly what to do and what to expect their dog to do.

2 head tilts

Here a 2 head tilts. These are things that are in the app and are just neutral facts.

• Trick focused - Puppr app covers mainly tricks and obedience basics. So you might not find the variety you’re looking for if you want to start at ground zero, like leash walking, topics about food etc.

• Difficulty levels - for every lesson, you’ll find a difficulty level. That is helpful if you might not know if a certain trick is safe to teach to your new puppy.

1 bone to pick

Our main question mark lies on whether Puppr’s subscription is truly worth it. Their yearly plan is about $99.99… which is definitely not cheap.

Taking into consideration the Puppr app’s relatively limited set of features and lessons, we are not sure their paid subscription would offer dog owners enough extra value for that price.

For most users, their app’s free features might already cover what they need.

Our final thought

We think that Puppr app is a dog parent friendly, nicely designed and they have put in the effort to make teaching tricks clear and better to understand even to a complete beginner.

While their subscription version might not be necessary or suitable for everyone, their free content does offer enough content to test the app and see if it offers what you as a dog owner need.

As always, at the end of the day it really doesn’t matter if you like in-person trainings, Youtube for extra information or one of the dog training apps like Puppr.
